Time Tracking For Success.

So, you might remember, I learned a little lesson a few weeks back.  I had a lightbulb moment and set new intentions.  (You can read the post here)

Yep, well, old habits die hard it would seem.

know my priorities.  Being the avid goal-setter I am, I know what tasks I should be doing to ‘move the needle’ and get me closer to them.  But knowing them and doing them are totally different.  I know to achieve the toned tummy I’m going to need to build the muscle, almost daily.  Do I do it?  Nope.

I’d like to say my new intentions slipped because of some worthy cause but, the truth is, I know it was a few bad habits to blame.  The biggest of all is procrastination. 

John C Maxwell, known as one of the greatest thought leaders in management, said “the secret of success comes down to your daily agenda.”  He believed if he were to spend 24 hours with someone, following them through their typical day, he’d be able to predict where their life was headed.    He says:

“You’ll never change your life until you change something you do daily.”

(Abs, we’re on.)

So, with that in mind, it’s time for a bit of a reality check.  If, like me, you get to the end of a day and wonder exactly what you did with your time, then this is for you.  If you’re making little (or no) progress in achieving something that’s been on your goal list forever, this is for you.  Or, if you know things are just out of balance and you’re ready to make a change, this is for you.

It’s so simple to do, but so powerful.

Record and Review.

To see where your time is going, you’re going to have to get it down on paper (or digitally, if that’s your thing).  Don’t rely on your memory.  Track it.

I’ve created a tracking tool you can download here.  The magic is in ‘coding’ your tasks into priorities.  It will give you a great picture over 24 hours (just like Sir Maxwell suggested).  My suggestion is to do it for a week to get a great record of ‘normal life’.

But… that’s ‘normal life’.  In your normal life are you achieving what your heart desires?  Are you living the life you want to?  What kind of future are your daily habits creating?

I find this is a powerful first step in making a change.  You need to know where you are, what your starting point is.  Then you’re so much clearer on what needs to change to start shifting you towards a new direction.

The Love Letter... Totally Revealing

Here it is.  The love letter.  Heart on sleeve, holding breath…

Dear Reader

You are truly special.  I know that to be true.  You have a unique magic inside of you, a sparkle that is just yours – no other person in the world has exactly the same elixir of talents and experience and personality and gifts as you.  You are one of a kind.  And that special combination has something to offer everybody else.  When you shine your unique sparkle, others can feel it.  Other people want to be around it.  You inspire other people to shine bright too.  Accept it.  Claim it.  Show it off!!  It’s been gifted to you for a reason.  Don’t let it grow dim.  Dust it off.  Make today the day that shining becomes your role – it’s the kindest thing that you can do for you and everyone that knows and loves you.

Read it.  Read it again and feel it.

I feel a tad uncomfortable wearing my heart on my sleeve but this is what I believe for you.  It’s my belief that every, single person has something special to share and I feel that, in my heart, I want to help people to hear it and come to feel it…. And ultimately to live it. And here’s the best part – you role model the way for other people (especially the little people).

The reason I’m uncomfortable?  I fear I may sound … rose-tinted.

But I know for any number of people that think maybe it’s a little idealistic, there may be one other person that needs to hear this and remember it.  Because deep down you know this, right?  You are my people.

When you were a little girl you may have been told you were special and precious.  Maybe you weren’t told that but, whether you heard it or not, it was true nonetheless.  And, it’s still true now you’re a grown-up.  It never stops being true.  It’s just sometimes we forget it…. Or don’t let ourselves believe it.  It feels uncomfortable to truly be you.  

(And here we come back full circle to me feeling jittery sharing this).

But I’m feeling the fear and writing it anyway.  My reason is I feel I can help.  I’ve been unofficially learning for almost twenty years now, and have officially equipped myself with training and skills over the past 5 years to move people from fuzziness and overwhelm to clarity and direction so that they can shine.

The 2 Big Reasons Why You Should Stop Wishing For a Better Life

Have you ever tried dropping a few subtle gift hints in the lead-up to your birthday or Christmas?  You mention the amazing pair of shoes you tried on or the designer perfume you spritzed and fell in love with.  Now tell me, do the subtle hints work for you?  Or, have you ended up unwrapping a pasta-maker when what you really had your eye on was a soft-as-butter leather purse? (True story.)

When it comes to making your desires a reality, subtle hints just won’t cut it.  You’ve got to know what you want and then be crystal clear in asking for it.

So, you say you want more time.  You want a better balance.  You’d like more time for yourself.  Well, if so, I’m sorry to break it to you but the chances are you might just end up with a pasta maker.  It’s time to get clear on what you really want.

If you want more time, why?  What will more time give you?  What’s really important to you about having more time? Or more money? Or a better balance? Or whatever your surface level wish is.  

Dig a little deeper and you start to get to your core desire/s.

If you were granted your wish of more money, your bank account has just been credited, what would this mean to you?  Would it mean you could quit your job? And then what? Spend time with your family?  Start your own business?  What is the motivation and the core desire that sits beneath your wish.  

Maybe you truly desire love and connection and more money would mean more time to spend with the people you love.

Or quitting your job and starting your own business would give you a sense of achievement and fulfilment.

Or maybe more money means more freedom so you can choose the lifestyle you want to create.  You can travel.  You can choose work you love.

Give it a try.  Think of what you keep wishing for.  Identify your “if… then…” stories.  For example, if I had more time, then I’d be happier/less stressed.  It will probably be a thought that loops around your head frequently.  

Once you’ve pinpointed it, get digging.  Ask yourself, why do I want that?  Keep going until you get to an emotion, then you’ve struck gold.  Most often, you’ll feel like the word resonates, it will feel right.

stop wishingAnd here are two reasons why its super-important to be clear on your core desires and not just your surface level wishes

1. Your core desires are your compass.  When you live in ‘alignment’ to the things you desire the most, things will flow more easily.  If they’re not, then things start to feel a bit ‘off’, they feel more of a struggle.  In a nutshell, you can consciously make choices and decisions to live in a way that suits you and what you value most.

2. There may be ways in which you can bring your desire about in your life right now.  So, if you wish for more money, a lottery win might be unlikely.  BUT, if the reason you wish for a windfall is because your core desire is to feel peace or calm, you can find ways today to create that feeling in your life.  Maybe a quick walk after dinner in the evening would feel calming.  Or a bubble bath.  Or maybe meditation might bring you a feeling of peace.  

Living your desires might just be a little closer than you think.

Secrets of my Success: Financial Freedom Coach Karie Hill

Money.  What does the word mean to you?  It’s just five little letters but it’s bound to be loaded with meaning for you, probably since the day you were given that first shiny coin for your piggybank!  So how are you and money getting along these days?  What habits have you got in your relationship with your finances?  What are your goals?  How does financial freedom sound?  If the very words make your body relax a little, you’re going to love our inspiration this week – Financial Freedom Coach Karie Hill.

Karie walks the talk – a former police officer, she created her own financial freedom that has allowed her to create a business she is passionate about.  I speak from my own experience of being coached through one of her group programmes when I say that she is a great role model – as both a financially-savvy  woman and as someone who clearly puts heart, soul and courage into her work.

 

Tell me a little about you, your business and your mission!

I am a financial freedom coach with a mission of getting thousands of women out of debt. When women get this part of their life handled, things start to open up in the most beautiful way and they’re able to experience the gift of freedom – the freedom to choose their best life.

What is your vision of your best life? 

I want everyone I come in contact with to leave the experience feeling inspired by our connection. In order to do that, I have to continue to live my best life which means serving through my business, practicing what I preach and focusing on my own personal growth every day.

Can you tell us about some of the challenges, obstacles or fears you’ve faced and how you’ve tackled them?

After being in a career for nine years that was a big part of my life and identity, I decided to resign and embark on my entrepreneurial journey. I was so afraid and nobody understood how I could leave a stable job that I had spent almost a decade in. There was something inside of me that just kept pushing me forward and that’s how I live now. Even when I’m completely freaked out and scared, I just keep moving. I have never felt more free and happy in my life.

Have you ever thought you had everything planned, only for life to show you an alternative?

Yes! I’ve always been obsessed with planning and focusing on the future and I’m usually ten steps ahead of the moment. I was in a relationship and thought I had our future together planned until one day it all came crashing down. On the outside it may have seemed like just a broken relationship but it was one of my greatest lessons. I can look at the experience now and feel thankful. Life showed me an alternative to my big plans in a great way and now I’m living more present, more spontaneous and more peaceful than ever.

Has there been a ‘defining moment’ that has changed your life or your view of life?  What has been the nudge in the right direction for you?

A defining moment in my life was when I tragically lost a family member that meant the world to me. This is when I realized how short life really is and it’s up to me to create the life I really want. It sounds so cliché but it was a real experience for me. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think about that moment.

If you were to look back and offer advice to yourself, what 3 pearls of wisdom would you share?

  • Stop worrying about what everyone thinks. This is your journey and it doesn’t have to make sense to anyone but you.
  • “When people show you who they are, believe them.” Maya Angelou
  • Follow your intuition. There is a little voice or feeling inside of you that is your true guide. Listen to it. Follow it.
